MUSIC WEEK
This week’s theme for our challenges is Music! We will be singing, playing instruments and having as much fun as possible!
Weekly Challenge: The Joey-Vision Song Contest!
Your week-long challenge for this week is to write a song for or about our School!
Think about all the great things you enjoy about our school, all the experiences you’ve had and what you like best about our school. Then using the skills we practiced during poetry week, write the lyrics (words) of your song.
Things to remember:
- Your song must have a steady beat.
- Think of the main ideas you want to include in your song.
- Make a list of the KEY WORDS and PHRASES you want to include and then make a list of words that rhyme with your KEY WORDS and PHRASES.
- Your song must have at least ONE VERSE and ONE CHORUS.
- It can be a song or a rap.
- You CAN write the tune (melody) for your song but you don’t need to! Just the lyrics (words) will do.
Here are some more tips on song writing to help you out!

Day 1 – Make a Musical Instrument
You can make music with almost anything! Today’s challenge is to make your own musical instrument at home. Use whatever you have in your house and to create your instrument. It could be:
Guitar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m5oWZixca0
Percussion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZjywurvgEE
Glass xylophone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIO-JhMvu6M
Drum kit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i877bBuWvus
Or use your imagination to come up with something completely different!
Don’t forget to share pictures of your instruments with your teacher!
Day 2 – Playlist of favourite songs
Music is about sharing. Sharing our memories, sharing our experiences and sharing how it makes us feel! So I want you to pick your favourite songs; at least 3 and no more than 5. Listen to each of them and write down the reasons why you love that song! Then share your list with your teacher, friends, family and anyone else you like!
Day 3 – Sing a Song
Today we want to hear you all singing!! The song we are ALL going to sing is ‘Shotgun’ by George Ezra. Follow the link to listen to and sing along with. Then send a voice recording or video clip (with your parents’ permission) to your teacher! So sing, dance and perform your heart out!!

Day 4 – Listen and Respond
One of the most wonderful things about music is that for every piece of music there are hundreds of different reactions to it! Some people will love it, some will hate it and others won’t care either way! So for this challenge I want you to listen to the piece of music in the link below and draw your reaction!
Steps:
- Listen to one (or all!) of these three pieces of music (try not to watch the video!!)

- Have colouring pencils, crayons, twistables etc. at the ready. When the music begins, start to draw and don’t stop until the music ends. Share your reaction drawings with your teacher and lets see how similar or different they are!
Day 5 –The Joey-Vision Song Contest Entries
Today is the day to submit your entries in to the Joey-Vision Song Contest. You can send a voice recording or video of you performing the song or simply send the lyrics of your sing to your teacher!
