Aboriginal Art in G3

In G3 we are learning about Australia in geography and we are learning about aboriginal people in history. In art we did native animals to Australia & decorated them like the Aboriginal people used to do in art.

Catholic Schools Week 2018 – Jan 29th-Feb 2nd

This week we are  celebrating Catholic Schools Week at St Joseph’s CBS.  We are a Catholic School and are inspired by our founder Blessed Edmund Rice. The theme for the week is Families in Faith.

On Monday, third class focused on the theme Our Family at Home. We prayed for all members of our families.

Today, fourth class prayed and reflected on Our School Family. We remember in prayer students, teachers and visitors to our school.

Tomorrow,  fifth class will focus and pray about Our Parish Family. We learn more about Jesus when we go to mass and we will pray for our school chaplin, Fr. Barry.

On Friday, sixth class will conclude our catholic schools week by remembering we belong to and are responsible for the world around us. Let us be beacons of joy to our families, school, parish and the world.

We are reminded of the invitation to us all from Pope Francis – in August 2018, the ninth World Meeting of Families will be celebrated in Dublin and throughout Ireland. The World Meeting of Families, which is held every three years, celebrates family life and the Church’s commitment to supporting families. The theme chosen by Pope Francis for World Meeting of Families is The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World.

We look forward to welcoming Pope Francis to Ireland.

The calendar year of 2018 is fully underway here in St. Joseph’s CBS Primary with a busy schedule of events and activities.

Already the boys have had their annual Barbican visit for the ‘Mini-Panto’ which always serves to ensure that any post Xmas winter gloom, that might exist, is quickly forgotten.  A fun morning was had by all!

After-school activities are back in full swing – Homework clubs, Table-tennis club, Chess club, Drama club, Singing club and Band club.  Swimming lessons for six weeks are being well engaged with by 4th class pupils this term as was the case with 5th and 6th classes during 1st term.

Parents

It is very pleasing also to see that parent participation in Operation Transformation, Computer lessons and Yoga morning has been of the highest level and our hosting of Computer and Yoga adds to that pleasure for our school community.

Coffee Morning – The Big Event

Thursday, February 1st is an eagerly awaited day for St. Joseph’s with the Annual Coffee Morning creating a big buzz in the school.  Our pupils are very much engaged with the procedures of the day as they welcome and direct our visitors as well as entertaining with a variety of on stage performances.  No doubt they also enjoy their own visit to the “Cake and Bun” stall as the day unfolds.

2018 – An historic year for St. Joseph’s CBS Primary.

This year St. Joseph’s welcomes Junior Infants into its school community for the first time.  It is a most exciting development for our school and is being looked forward to with great enthusiasm and eager anticipation by all.

Planning and preparation for the arrival of Infants is to the forefront of our minds and there is a great sense of commitment to providing the very best learning opportunities for our new recruits.

Encounter Days

On February 5th,6th and 7th our Sixth Class pupils are having a day of reflection and self-discovery – one class per day. It will be a day for the boys to give time to think about their values, beliefs and personal vision of their place in the world – in an enjoyable way.

Ceremony of Light

Our Ceremony of Light for the Confirmation Candidates 2018 takes place on Wednesday night, February 7th, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 7pm.  It is a very meaningful ceremony, relaxed and informal, but central to the Confirmation preparation and experience.

G5 School Projects

In G5 everyone in the class is doing a project. Everyone can pick their own project topic. The project has to be submitted by Tuesday the 6th of Febuary. We are enjoying doing the project.
